Sea Lions

  • They live around 25 years.
  • Males are called bulls, female, cows and juveniles, pups.
  • Cows have one pup a year, after 8 to 11 months pregnancy.
  • They can sleep on land or in water.
  • They have external ears, one difference from seals.
  • They can see better underwater.
  • They can dive up to 500 feet and hold the breath for 40 minutes
  • There is 13 reproductive colonies in the gulf of California
  • Their whiskers let them feel external vibrations  and movement.
  • They are very intelligent, curious and playful.

Whale Sharks

  • Is the largest fish in the ocean and feeds on the tiniest creatures (plankton, krill, fish eggs…).
  • Can reach up to 14m (46 feet) in length- Females are bigger than males
  • They can weight up to 20 Tons.
  • The are Ovoviviparous, that means the eggs are hatched inside the mother.
  • Their matting or pupping has never being observed.
  • Their spots patterns is unique, like a human fingerprint.
  • Scientifics are still not sure how long they can live, estimate is over 100 years.
  • Since 2016 is considered a vulnerable species, is in the IUNC Red List.
  • They have more than 3.000 tiny teeth, less than 4mm long, and they do not use them to feed.
  • They are harmless to humans.
