15-45 min boat ride looking for the whale sharks.
Whale Sharks are around almost all year near the El Mogote Peninsula, however and according the current legislation to protect them, we are only allowed to visit them from October 1st to April 30th. From May to September there is fewer animals in the area and less food, so the absence of boat traffic in the area will let them feed better. The new legislation allows only 14 boats at once in the whale sharks area, and their speed and presence is controlled by GPS trackers. Is important you are not late to your departure time so we do not lose our slot time to enjoy the whale shark time.
During the season we expect in La Paz Bay the visit of more than 100 whale sharks.
The reason there is so many in such a small area is because there is lots of plankton, krill and other micro-organisms that move to the surface because of water temperature, which means a lot of Whale Shark food! These gentle giants are familiar with the small boats (pangas) that we use to visit them so they do not get frightened. We organise our tours in very small groups, with only 2 people in the water at the time and respecting the distance to do not disturb them. Is quite and experience tol swim along with them and enjoy to view these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
The tour normally lasts 2 hours, but can be more or less depending how far away they are, and how many guests are on the boat. You will get multiple opportunities to jump and snorkel with the biggest fish in the world.

Start the day with a bang- snorkeling with whale sharks! Swim along with the gentle giants while we record your experience.
We then move onto Isla Gaviota (Seagull Island) to observe the beautiful marine birds that live and reproduce there, like the very rare Blue Footed Boobies.
We get back in the water for more snorkeling on the coral reef around San Rafaelito, a small lighthouse and rocky pinnacle where a colony of Californian Sea Lions reside, and these curious and playful marine pups love to swim around us.
After all that action we need some lunch with a view, we choose one of the bays of Balandra to enjoy delicious fresh fish ceviche, fruit and cold beers; and amazing scenery too.
Time: Around 7 hours
1Hr 30min Boat Ride to Islotes.
We navigate around the west side of Espiritu Santo Island, crossing to the East Side by the shallow channel which separates the island from Isla Partida.
Once in Islotes we jump in the water and snorkel to enjoy the colourful coral and amazing fish diversity, and hopefully lots of curious and playful Californian Sea Lion pups that swim all around you.
On the way back we will stop in any of the magnificent beaches for lunch and stop at many points of interest around the islands, like the striking rock formations of ‘The Mask’, the Frigate nesting area, the ruins of the Pearls farm, also snorkel again on a different coral reef, or if you prefer, over a wreck.
